The 5-day 22nd Asian Junior Squash Team Championships starts today at Hong Kong Squash Centre

Sole title-sponsored by South China Group, organized by the Squash Association of Hong Kong, China, sanctioned by the Asian Squash Federation, subvented by the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau, Arts & Sports Development Fund and fully supported by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and Watsons Water, the “2025 South China Group 22nd Asian Junior Squash Team Championships” commence today at the Hong Kong Squash Centre.

In the Boy’s event, the top seed Team Republic of Korea and 2nd Team Malaysia both won all their matches and currently leading in Pool A and B with 6 points. The 3rd seed Team Hong Kong, China, competing in Pool C, fielded the same lineup of Wong Wing Kuen, Tam Tsz Shing, and Cheng Justin Hong-chen for both matches today. The team defeated the 11th seed Team Thailand in three straight sets in the morning and faced a tough battle against the 5th seed Team Japan in the afternoon. Wong Wing Kuen, after trailing by two sets, fought back to win the third set 11-9 but ultimately lost the match 1-3. Tam Tsz Shing then tied the match by winning Shunsaku Kariyazono 3-1, and Cheng Justin Hong-chen secured a crucial victory in the third match in straight sets against Makino Renji, helping the team secure the top spot in Pool C by 5 points.

In Pool D, the 6th seed Team Pakistan successfully upset the fourth seed Team India 2-1 in the afternoon match, also temporarily holding the top position in their group with 5 points.

The Girl’s event was divided into two pools. The top seed Team Hong Kong, China with Cheung Tsz Ching, Kwong Ena and Leung Ka Huen all winning 3-0 against the 10th seed Team Chinese Taipei in their first match today. The team then changed the lineup in the afternoon match to battle with the 7th seed Team Sri Lanka. After Tang Helen, Cheung Tsz Ching and Leung Ka Huen achieved another three straight wins, the team is currently listed at the top of Pool A with two wins and 6 points.

While the Girl’s 2nd seed Team Malaysia also performed excellently in Day 1, they successfully defeated the 8th seed Team Macau, China and the 9th seed Team People's Republic of China without losing a set, currently leading Pool B with 6 points.

The Boy’s and Girl’s pool matches will take place tomorrow, with the top two Boy’s teams from each pool advancing to the Quarterfinals, while the Girl’s pool matches will continue until Wednesday.
